Once again we had a fun Thanksgiving week here at The Wakeboard Camp! We had wakeboarders from all over the globe to enjoy a cornucopia of food with us. Thanks everybody and Happy Holidays!

TWC continues to impress the Iowa crew! The coaches are amazing; thorough, patient and very down to earth. TWC has the highest quality of instruction and has been truly instrumental not only in the improvement of our riding but improvement of our overall knowledge base of all that is wakeboarding. As well, it has provided us the ability to now coach other friends as we introduce them to the sport. Thank you so much for everything. Steve says keep the bar next door stocked, we will be back!

Learning How to Learn

This summer we had some great people, Tim and Kristin Mezel here for a week. In their line of work, they do a lot of analyzing and problem solving on many different levels of business and all aspects of life. They had a great week here, and after returning home, Kristin wrote up a great review of their week here.

Many people are too nervous to come here to the camp. Some people tend to think that everybody at the camp is at a pro level and that they will be laughed at for trying to do something new like ride outside of the wake. Kristin talks about how our system helps everybody learn at every level. Here is an excerpt:

I was nervous, like anyone can be, learning something new– especially along side the other campers who were there to learn tricks like the Backside 360, 540, Scarecrow, Tantrum… none of which I had a clue much less would I dream of learning. In spite of the butterflies in my stomach, I was determined to learn how to wakeboard more confidently.

We went out for our first ride, and our second, and third and in the blink of an eye the five days had passed and we had ridden a total of 15 sets (more than I’d typically ride in one summer)! Gone were the butterflies and my skills and confidence quadrupled.
It was on the trip home that I realized how much my experience mirrored elements of the ideal learning experience. Here are some thoughts on what made it ideal.

Tricks and Treats!

2011 Wake Awards

We couldn’t be more proud here at TWC with our rider Amber Wing being crowned once again as the “Best Female” for 2011 to go along side her numerous other 2011 titles: Pro Tour Champion, Queen Of Wake, National and World Champion. Let’s just combine them all to make her 2011 Female Champion of the Universe!

Every year the main attraction is for the Best Trick award, with the whole wakeboarding community waiting to see what the boys have landed that will leave us all mind blown! This year there was taken out by Eric Ruck, with a mute back mobe into a step up pool. Though our favorite was our very own Robert Sichel who kept secret from us here at TWC his latest crazy move, a Double Indy Tantrum! Bob has worked really hard trying to land this trick, leaving him with stitches over his face and also what at first looked like a broken face. His dedication definitely paid off!
Congratulations to both Amber and Bob!

Kuwaiti Contingent

We love seeing photos from campers time here at TWC. These are from Kuwaiti’s Jeanne, May and Fawaz.
Being towed behind coach Billy, Fawaz was game enough to get up on a wakeboard for the first time! Hopefully he will be carving around and loving the water just as much as his big sister May (who hit a kicker for the first time, also with Billy’s encouragement) and mother Jeanne soon!

Some more great news from these Kuwaiti shredders, a huge congratulations to Jeanne who placed 3rd at the IWSF World Titles in Milan, Italy!

We Remodeled Our Rooms

It’s been a full decade that the camp has been in our current building, so we decided it was time to do a little remodeling! We remodeled our two large bedrooms.

Those of you who have stayed here before will remember the old layout, which was pretty dark and closed in. Now they are very open with fresh paint, brand new beds, and plenty of wakeboard nostalgia all over the walls!
