Amber’s Visit to China

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Amber contacted us recently about her current trip to China. Here’s what she had to say about it:

Hey Everyone!!!

I arrived in China on Wednesday night. I flew from Orlando – New York – Beijing – Hangzhou then caught a bus for an hour to my hotel. My bags never made it out of New York (thank you Air China).

I had practice on Thursday and semi finals on Friday wearing Harley Clifford’s clothes as he rides for Oakley and riding his spare board 134 Watson with a pair of bindings and vest I borrowed from another girl rider, and Jeff Weatherall’s rope and handle. I made it through to finals.

Finally at 430am on Saturday morning my bags arrived at the hotel, just in time for finals!!!!

I rode well and won the competition. I am heading to Shanghai for 3 days where we are touring the city, going to a Water park and visiting Oakley China. Sunday – Wednesday.

On Wednesday I fly to Liuzhou for the World Cup stop.

China is a very interesting country with Culture. I am really enjoying my trip and documenting on video, which wakegirls.com will be editing and posting my traveling experience.

I will keep you updated.

Thanks for the support.

Amber

So congratulations to Amber on making it to the finals on borrowed equipment and then taking the title! She sent some pics as well.

Get Better with LearnWake.com

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Hey friends! In many places of the world, there is still a fair amount of time to get back out on the board this year. Why not learn something new? Landing something new is a great way to end a season and keep you excited throughout the winter.

Not sure what to learn? Well head over to LearnWake.com and snoop around in the Library. Or maybe go to the Instructional Video section and watch one of Kyle’s step by step instructional videos on making handle passes easier, or tripping that tantrum. Just think, you can spend 10 bucks for a month and come out of this summer with one more move, or with a consistent 360. Pretty sweet huh?

Here’s a little teaser for ya. Heelside front flip. It’s good fun.

Amber’s Trick of the Year

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

In case you missed it, at the Wake Awards, Amber Wing took home the 2009 Women’s Trick of the Year with her heelside 720. This was the first time any female rider has landed the move, and it was done right out in front of The Wakeboard Camp! Congratulations again Amber!

Worlds Results

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Congratulations to all friends and staff of The Wakeboard Camp at both Worlds competitions this past weekend! The WWA Worlds went down in Orlando at OWC and IWSF had theirs on the very same weekend on the other side of the world in Chuncheon, Korea. Here are some results for ya:

WWA Worlds in Orlando

  • Michaela de Waern – 2nd Pro Women Wakeskate
  • Amber Wing – 3rd Pro Women
  • Kurt Robertson – 6th Masters
  • Matt Doke – 4th Jr. Boys
  • Bryan Kryzda – 5th Jr. Men
  • Paulie Koch – 4th Boys

Those are just a handful of competitors who have helped make The Wakeboard Camp a fun place to be. Other riders that made good showings were Hayley Smith, Marcos Torres, Darren Bishop, and Kaesen Suyderhoud. There are many more as well, so great job to everybody! It was sweltering hot in Orlando, and everybody put up some real impressive stuff.

Now, here are some results from the other side of the world:

IWSF Worlds in Korea

  • Raequel Hoffman – 1st Pro Women
  • Shawna Hoffman – 5th Pro Women
  • Bec Gange – 6th Pro Women

Great job to the Hoffman sisters and Bec for making the finals in her first pro event. Chris Dunn also made it past the first round with his buttery smooth style. Word is that the wind was pretty fierce over there, so great job toughing it out everybody.
